I was never one to write in a diary in my younger years, so it's no surprise that journal writing doesn't come second nature to me, but I desperately need a medium of this sort to try and focus my attention during my 'Road to Understanding Photoshop".  Its been ten years or so since I was introduced to Photoshop and I have tried so many methods and means to attempt to learn this particular piece of software, but up until now I realise that I have been doing it all wrong.  Reading text books was obviously not the answer...if I managed to stay awake after each chapter I was very lucky.  So, in my search of the Holy Grail to learning PS and after reading millions of forums (ok, maybe a hundred), I finally think I have found the path to Photoshop enlightenment...well, hopefully.

I have now taken the advice of the Photoshop Nation and am now watching video tutorials on Lynda.com, and wow...I'm finally getting it!  And in the mean time I am doing tutorials till they are coming out of my a-, uh..ears.

Why?  Well, first of all I don't really consider myself an artist.  I have zero drawing/panting skills and I'm lucky if my stick men look anatomically correct.  But, (and here comes the revelation of biblical proportions), I have vision, dammit! I have had these pictures and scenes and worlds and universes racing around in my head since I was a boy, and they need to get out there before I truly go round the bend - Please don't mention this to anyone I know after reading this cause they all think I am certifiable.  I always thought I would be a writer, you know, the guy who paints with words....and maybe I will still push out a pulitzer prize winning novel in my spare time.  But all I have ever wanted to do is transfer the pictures in my head onto some sort of legible surface in order for it to be viewed - I know, I know, the time my mother praised my 'Eiffel Tower in Chocolate Pudding' doesn't count.

What I am trying to say is now I am attempting to get serious about creating some good pieces in Photoshop and I really, really need to give myself a swift kick up the a-, uh..backside, to get this done.  I have never been one for taking criticism, as I believe I am my own worst citric, HOWEVER, in this learning process I realise I have to join the real world and take the blows with the praise.  It's time I joined DeviantArt and stopped just supporting it.

Be gentle, I'm new.

The sea is dangerous and its storms terrible, but these obstacles have never been sufficient reason to remain ashore... Unlike the mediocre, intrepid spirits seek victory over those things that seem impossible... It is with an iron will that they embark on the most daring of all endeavors... to meet the shadowy future without fear and conquer the unknown. ~ Ferdinand Magellan

I know, I know... its cliche to open a profile with a quote, yet the more I try to sum myself up with a few colorful adjectives and a witty quip I always end up thinking of this particular statement you see above by the first man to circumnavigate the globe by ship. Why? Because I feel it sums up a vast part of my life and the steps it took to get where I am today. I currently live and work on a ship myself, but more of the luxury motor yacht variety rather than the tall ships where Ferdinand was Master. Unfortunately, however, the yacht is not mine. I could barely afford the gold leaf on the fog bell if the truth be known. I serve as the Chief Purser onboard - the guy in charge of all the money and funds onboard, and responsible for all the port formalities such as berthing, customs and immigration, etc. Not a job quite as exciting as the grey bearded dude on the bridge who gets to turn the wheel, eh?

I didn't get a 'calling' to the sea until I was over 30 years old, and so it is at this age I truly felt I was reborn. My only regret is that I hadn't been introduced to the quote above a lot earlier in my life, as it is truly my motto and may have encouraged me to leave my life on land behind at an younger age.

If you do anything in your life, anything at all worthy of achievement and pride....travel, travel, travel. Before your mind gets cannibalized by endless commercialisation, propaganda and censorship, open your front door and see the world past the fence at the end of your lawn (that is...if you have a lawn). This planet of ours is more wondrous, more magnificent, and more breathtakingly awesome than any book, factory, or theme park could ever reproduce...please go out and discover it for yourself. There is no better way to remove prejudice and biased views....no better way to see the world and its remarkable people and cultures as they were meant to be seen...by the naked eye. We are truly 'One World - One People', but don't take my word for it. Go out and discover this truth for yourself.

About me - (here is the blah blah, yawn). I am as mature and sophisticated as much as I am in need of psychiatric care. I'm an eternal boy-at-heart (I still read comics and blow bubbles with my chewing gum). I am completely spontaneous and have a cracking sense of humour - If I couldn't laugh at least once a day my life would not be worth living. I tend to measure a person's worth in their ability to laugh at themselves. If you can laugh with me and make me laugh then we will get along just fine. C'mon, life is actually very funny!

Would u check out my works at DA, as fellow photo manipulators? I'm an amateur. I made some human-animal 'hybrids' also but my characters are more demonic then creature-ish. You can find them in my gallery under Devil's Collector folder.

I made a deer-centaur but haven't put it on DA yet. It's in my blog: [link] Please check it out, thank u.
